My parents own a flower shop, and growing up, their motto was "Say it with Flowers". Nothing can say it louder than a homemade card with a beautiful bouquet of colorful flowers.

What would we do without flowers? They represent many parts of our lives, from blessing a new baby to expressing grief and remembrance of a loved one. They are used in religious ceremonies like Easter and for celebrations, like weddings.

Flowers can be found growing in the ground, as part of a boutonniere on a lapel, or in a fresh arrangement. No matter how you decide to appreciate flowers, life would be a dreary place without them.

SE1: PUFFIES!

We got a little taste of Puffies in the Annual Inspirations Idea Book in the Chalk It Up kit.  In the Seasonal Expressions 1 Idea Book, we have two more Puffies to choose from.  This time, they have glitter!  The shapes  include hearts, arrows, birds, flowers, and butterflies.  Great for adding that little something to your project.

Quilling Tool

Even though it is the middle of winter, and most things are hibernating or dead, flowers remind us that everything is not dead.  Decorate your house with lovely variations of paper flowers using the Artise Cricut cartridge and the quilling tool.  Check out the video below to learn how to roll flowers to add to your projects.

The Quilling Tool from Close To My Heart helps you create gorgeous rolled paper projects and embellishments that are simply stunning. The tool comes with two sizes - one on each end - to help you achieve as tight or as loose a roll as you would like. The Quilling Tool makes rolling up and curling cut flowers, like our Cricut-cut shapes, quick and easy, so your flowers stay tightly would before you release them and add your adhesive. Take one end, slip it on to your paper and roll away. Just like that. Now both ends of the tool feature tapered ends so that as you roll, the completed portions ease onto the barrel without ripping, of course. Then you simply slide the completed flower off of the end and apply adhesive to both ends and add to your projects.

Puzzle Embossing

Technique Junkies has another fun embossing technique called Puzzle Embossing in their August/September 2012 edition.  Emboss cardstock using the CTMH Chevron Embossing folder.  Carefully cut the cardstock into 5 pieces, keeping the pieces in loose order.  Lightly ink each piece withe a sponge or the direct-to-paper technique.  Keep the pieces in order and return them to their place after inking.  After inking, flip the pieces over, keeping them in the same order.  Tape all of the "puzzle" pieces together.  Place adhesive on the back of the taped pieces and glue to another piece of cardstock.  I wrapped them with Teal Shimmer Trim, before adhering to the card base.  The flower was created with a scalloped circle punch and Skylark's Assortment.

Flower Reverse Masking

A way to change up the Reverse Masking technique I spoke about in the last post is to use multiple colors.  For this card, I used Sorbet and Juniper to sponge dark around the edges and lighter in the middle.  The vines are second generation Slate stamps.  The main flower image is from the LOVE THIS stamp set and stamped in Archival Black Ink, and colored in with markers.  A Flamingo Dot marks the center.  I hand drew the line with a fine black marker.
